program note:
A human being has the outstanding capability to process both vague and exact information in the same level.
____This piece consists of two sections: 1) where specifications of pitch, duration and dynamics are described a little vaguely and 2) where these are described altogether precisely in the score. The music realized with the materials of these two poles reflects deeply the inner movement cycle and tendencies of information processing of the cellist. As musical motives, the surge, creaking, modulation and pulse of continuous energy are drawn.
____“Materials for a cellist” was commissioned by and written for cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras.
